You will know if you are being productive by assessing your accomplishments and in some cases, your shortcomings.

When you arrive to a point where you can begin enjoying the fruits of your labor is a good indication that you are well on your way. However, if enough time has passed and you realize that you are not happy with your results, your plan may need to be revised.

Think of productivity as your report card. It is the final sum answer of your actions. Your actions and their results are the tools that build credibility; credibility builds trust; trust builds loyalty. Customer loyalty will always be a chief indicator if what you are doing is right, or if changes need to be made.
